Attack of the Custom Plushies!

Making custom distribution plushies is almost always fun. The only time it isn't is when something doesn't come out right and I have to redo it. But besides that, its fun to pick the colors and make something that is different than the usual.

During this past month, I've made lots of custom plushies. Here are some of my favorites.

The back of a Poisson plushie, including pmf and special note:
A blue Gumbel for a color-blind dad's Father's Day gift.
Erlang plushie with big eyebrows.
Green chi-square plushie. I just liked the way he looked when done.
Pink Gamma with a grumpy face.

I love customer pictures!

I recently made these custom bookends for a wonderful Etsian in Hawaii. She contacted me about the possibility of turning the chi-square plushies into bookends. I tried out some things, we discussed as I experimented, and she decided to go for it. The results are pictured here!

Don't they look so cute next to all her smart books: genetics, immunology, epidemiology, statistics, awesome! (And I spot the ever popular Agresti Introduction to Categorical Data Analysis book.)

Thank you so much for sharing the pictures! I love to see things in their new homes. It's gives a sense of completion and they always look cute!

More New Products!

Yesterday I received a query from an Etsy user about making my plushies into bookends. (Sweet idea.)

Now, think about that. How awesome would it be to have a chi-square holding up your books! I had to agree with her, this would be wonderful. So, last night my husband and I brainstormed and went shopping (he's so good about that!). We bought some aquarium gravel and shelf liner.

Why? Starting with the gravel...I made a small pouch of about 1 lb. of gravel. I plan to stick that inside of the plushie so it has some weight. The shelf liner is the stickiest one we found. I plan to use that to line the bottom of the plushie so she doesn't just slide down the shelf with the books following her.

As long as I sew the shelf liner between two layers of fabric, it works great.

I did some testing, and was pleased with the results. Now, the books I used are pretty small, so that might call fro a retest, and the shelf I used is just sanded wood, not even finished, so it has more grip on its own. But, even with a little bit of lean, the 1 lb pouch alone still held up the books. I placed it in a variety of positions and all were successful.

This was reassuring! Sadly, I will not have time to work some more on this until Monday night, but I look forward to it!

Another Fabulous Picture!

I love it!

This time a returning customer has sent me a wonderful photo with a thank you note after receiving her package. :) I smiled really hard for a good minute and then just smiled for the rest of the day. Thanks, Tuscaloosa Road! You should go check out her shop.

Happy Fall!

Last week the weather was a bit chilly here in Tulsa. But the past few days its been in the 60's-70's again. However, the trees are still pretty. Our neighborhood has a good variety of colors and sizes. It makes driving more fun.

Now that my sister's wedding dress is complete and her wedding is past, I have more time to work on things for my Etsy shop again! Which is wonderful because I really enjoy making statistical crafts.

So far, I've just relisted some chi-square plushies and remade the Euler coffee cozy. I changed the color of some of the threads. I think it looks better now.

In other news, my birthday is tomorrow! And Halloween is in only 10 days. Fun!

Calculator Case and Plushies

I've decided to make a calculator case. I haven't gotten very far on it yet. It actually is a rather ugly pre-prototype. I plan to make it lined with fleece or some other soft fabric and to embroider some wonderful mathy design onto a pretty exterior fabric. It will likely have a elastic and button closure, similar to the cozies I make. That seems to be an easy way to open and close the case. (My graphing calculator is the same one my mom bought me back in high school, about 11 years ago.)

I've also started to make some more Chi-Square plushies, shown in yellow. And I've cut out fabric for one log-normal plushie (in pink). I know that I've done one custom already, but I'm still testing my pattern. It would be a shame to cut out many and then realize I messed up some where!
